Students of the University of Jos yesterday morning in their thousands stormed the Main Campus of the institution and shut down academic activities demanding the reversal of the decision of the management to increase the development levy. According to the president of the Student Union Government (SUG) Abel Nok Du the students are not happy with the increment and have written to the school authority on the development. “We are calling for the removal of ten thousand Naira (10,000) development levy from our school fees, we are also calling for the reduction of N25,000 acceptance fees for admission.”
According to him, in the northern part of the country University of Jos students pay the highest development levy, including acceptance fees. Meanwhile the management of the university has denied increasing the school charges and postpondment of the second semester exams which was slated for yesterday to next week Monday in order to address the issues raised by the students Vice chancellor of the University Professor Hayward Mufuyai while addressing journalists yesterday in Jos called on the students to disregard the rumours being peddled that the management intends to review school charges “There is absolutely no plans by the University of Jos to review any school fees.
